The Arts & College Preparatory Academy (ACPA) is an arts focused, independent community school on the east side of Columbus that serves a diverse population of students in grades 7 through 12 from over 25 different districts in central Ohio.  ACPA is in its twentieth-second year of operation and has consistently been one of the highest performing charter schools in Ohio.  

 

ACPA is seeking qualified candidates for a School Counselor (High School) position for the 2024-2025 school year.  The School Counselor will report to the School Principals and be highly collaborative with the rest of the counseling team, classroom teachers and other members of the student support staff.  The School Counselor is a crucial position in many areas of student success - academics, social/emotional learning and overall continual growth.

 

The School Counselor will also be expected to reflect the mission, vision and ACPA values of kindness, respect for diversity, honesty, problem solving, communication, participation and awareness in all interactions with school stakeholders – including students, staff, parents and community partners. 

 

Salary Range:  Established salary schedule, annual contract.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in school counseling or related program; Ohio School Counselor license; experience in an arts focused and progressive school environment (preferred). 

 

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.
  • Remains accessible and makes an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible.
  • Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
  • Teaches social and emotional learning classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information.
  • Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
  • Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and educational needs and abilities.
  • Identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists.
  • Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
  • Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
  • Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.
